What a technical world.
Find out more about our environmental & public
law attorney Christoph Jirak
Christoph started at Schoenherr as an associate
and is now advising clients in environ-mental
and
public law as an attorney at law. This means he
supports them in plant and
construction approval
proceedings, environmental impact assessments
and much more, dealing
with many external
technicians and technical experts. From wind power,
photovoltaics and
particle accelerators
(like at CERN) to aviation matters, he always has
interesting
did-you-know-thats to share.
Who are you and what do you do?
Hi, I'm Christoph.
I am an attorney at law in our regulatory practice
group,
specialised in public and environmental
law. My standard day consists of meetings with
clients or authorities and courts, preparing expert
reports and briefs, reviewing and
inputting technical
and submission documents, and due diligence work
in public law as
support in M&A or real estate matters.
What do you like most about your job?
The term public or administrative law sounds rather
dry, I know. But it's actually a
cross-section of so
many legal and non-legal specialities that I learn
something
interesting every day. At this point I would
rock any pub quiz on how flight paths for airplanes
are established or on the physical principles of
particle accelerators (at least in broad
outline).
What were your career milestones so far?
I started at Schoenherr as an associate, so one
major milestone was pre-defined: passing my bar
exam and being registered as a lawyer. Of course,
the best thing is when we finally get
the final
permit for a big project after countless hours of
hard work, even
more so if the mandates have
been acquired personally.
What advice would you give the younger
Christoph today?
Have more confidence in yourself. Everybody is
figuring it out step by step, and you are not
the only
one with more questions than answers.
