Another promotion at Schoenherr: Matthias Pressler becomes Counsel
Matthias Pressler, member of Schoenherr's banking, finance and capital markets practice in Vienna, was promoted to counsel as of 1 October 2020. Pressler joined Schoenherr in 2015, and is an expert in financial services regulation, covering both transactional work as well as contentious and non-contentious regulatory advisory matters and administrative (criminal) proceedings.
He was recently awarded the title "Rising Star" by the renowned legal publication International Financial Law Review ("IFLR"). Pressler has a unique focus on the legal aspects connected to new technologies in the financial market and FinTechs, e.g. in the context of introducing new open banking business models.

Most recently, Pressler was involved in advising innovative Austrian FinTech Credi2 on the regulatory aspects of a venture capital investment of German Volkswagen Bank, one of the largest FinTech transactions in the Austrian market currently, and advised on the regulatory proceedings around UNIQA's multi-billion-euro acquisition of AXA subsidiaries in the Czech Republic, Poland and Slovakia. He further has a proven track record in representing clients in sensitive regulatory investigations and administrative (criminal) proceedings, including in the areas of AML compliance, conduct of business and risk management.
In January 2021, Schoenherr's capital markets practice will be further strengthened by Christoph Moser joining as new equity partner. He will lead the practice together with Ursula Rath (partner).
About Matthias Pressler
Matthias Pressler specialises in banking, finance and capital markets law with a focus on financial services regulatory law. Before joining Schoenherr, he worked as a senior consultant at Deloitte in Vienna for several years, where he advised financial services companies on regulatory issues. He studied at the University of Vienna (Mag. iur.) and at the Vienna University of Economics and Business Administration (BSc in Business Administration).
