Schoenherr advised the venture capital firm Marathon on the EUR 1.1m seed financing round for the Linz-based start-up Straion FlexCo. Straion FlexCo has developed an artificial intelligence solution that specialises in validating programmed code and assessing whether it complies with legal regulations and internal company guidelines.
Marathon Venture Capital is an Athens-based VC fund that focuses on early-stage investments in technology start-ups. Marathon recently established its third fund with over EUR 70m. The investment in Straion FlexCo represents its first investment in Austria.
The investment serves the purpose of accelerating Straion FlexCo's mission of ensuring that companies no longer have to struggle with whether their code is compliant with regulations. With its AI-based software, it seeks to help companies save significant time and reduce financial burdens.
"We are delighted to have supported Marathon Venture Capital on its first investment in Austria," said Schoenherr partner Thomas Kulnigg. "Helping international investors navigate the local legal landscape is something we are particularly passionate about, and we look forward to accompanying Marathon on its continued growth in the region."
Dominik Tyrybon, who led the day-to-day advisory work on the transaction, added: "Straion FlexCo is at the forefront of AI-driven code compliance, a space with significant potential. It was a pleasure to work closely with the Marathon team to structure this seed round and help bring together an exciting technology with a strong investor."
The Schoenherr team consisted of Thomas Kulnigg (Partner) and Dominik Tyrybon (Attorney at Law), as well as Daniela Birnbauer (Attorney at Law), who advised on AI and IP specific matters.
Dorda Rechtsanwälte acted as advisor to Straion FlexCo under the lead of Lukas Hermann (Partner).
