CEE/Romania: Schoenherr advises on EUR 460m project financing of Ogrezeni, one of Europe's largest hybrid (PV & BESS) renewable energy projects

Schoenherr advised Enery, a leading renewable power producer active across Central Eastern Europe, on the EUR 460m financing of the Ogrezeni hybrid renewable energy project in Giurgiu County, Romania. The landmark project combines large-scale photovoltaic generation with battery energy storage. With an installed capacity of 761 MWp / 534 MW AC and more than 1 GWh of storage, it will be among the largest hybrid renewable projects in Europe to date.

Schoenherr advised on all legal aspects of the project financing, which was signed on 24 December 2025 with a syndicate of eight commercial banks, coordinated by UniCredit. Construction is scheduled to start in the first quarter of 2026, with commercial operation due to start in 2027. Once operational, the plant is expected to generate enough green electricity to power the equivalent of approximately 684,000 households and avoid around 303,000 tons of CO₂ emissions annually.

Attila K Csongrady, partner and head of Schoenherr’s English law CEE debt finance practice, who led the team, commented: “We are delighted to have acted on this landmark renewable energy project financing, which represents a major step forward for Romania's energy transition and for renewable infrastructure in CEE. The deal demonstrates how sophisticated project finance structures can enable the delivery of large-scale, price-stable renewable capacity while supporting energy security and decarbonisation objectives."

Headquartered in Vienna, Austria, Enery is leading the green energy transition through the acquisition, development, construction and operation of large-scale renewable power plants across ten countries in Central Eastern Europe.

The Schoenherr team advising Enery was led by Attila K Csongrady (Partner) and Peter Redo (Counsel) as regards English law matters, and Adina Damaschin (Partner), Francesca Buta (Senior Attorney at Law) and Loredana Barbu (Senior Attorney at Law) as regards Romanian law matters.
