The growth of digital labour platforms is raising many legal questions. One of them refers to the status of platform workers and whether they should be considered as employees or freelancers, depending on the nature of their relationship to the platform operator.
While recent initiatives have been taken on an EU level to regulate this sector, international case law still needs to be aligned. The Romanian legislation, which only covers car riding apps and no provisions regarding delivery platforms, needs to be further clarified to avoid practical issues arising.
