In this article, managing attorney at law Mara Moga-Paler analyses the Romanian labour market over the first seven months of the Covid-19 pandemic, and focuses on how the new realities have changed the legal grounds for employment termination.
Between mid-March and mid-October 2020, 1.61m individual employment contracts were terminated, as compared to 1.78m in the same period for 2019. The effects of the pandemic on the local labour market are mainly visible in the number of redundancies due to job restructuring, which increased twofold compared to last year.
