Romania: Schoenherr awarded by leading business journal Ziarul Financiar

choenherr si Asociatii was recognised for its outstanding transaction advice in the financial services sector in 2017 by Romania's leading business journal Ziarul Financiar.

The award was received during the ninth Business Lawyers' Gala organised by the newspaper on 27 September in Bucharest.

The prestigious Romanian publication acknowledged Schoenherr's advisory work to Greek Eurobank Group on the sale of Bancpost to Banca Transilvania for a consideration of EUR 301m. Led by banking & finance partner Matei Florea and corporate/m&a partner Madalina Neagu, this transaction was the largest banking sale in Romania in 2017.

Commenting on Schoenherr Romania's performance, local managing partner Sebastian Gutiu said: "Looking back on the past year, I am proud to say that our team performed brilliantly and delivered excellent legal advice to our clients on some of the most complex transactions on the market. This award confirms our lawyers' ability to provide straightforward and focused advice on major banking transactions."

Ziarul Financiar gave out awards to nine other legal advisors that supported the largest transactions in 2017 from the following industries: energy, industry, real estate, construction materials, agribusiness, FMCG, retail, pharma/medical services, and IT&C/media/online.

The nominations

In addition to the nomination for The Largest Transaction in the Financial Services Sector, this year Schoenherr was included in three other award categories by Ziarul Financiar. For The Largest Real Estate Transaction, Schoenherr was shortlisted for assisting Atterbury Europe on the establishment of a joint financial fund with equal participation shares with Romanian IULIUS Group, the developer and operator of the IULIUS network of shopping malls. The Schoenherr team advising Atterbury Europe was jointly led by corporate/m&a partners Madalina Neagu and Markus Piuk.

In the category of The Largest Transaction in the Construction Materials Sector, Schoenherr was nominated for its advisory work provided to Dutch paints and coatings company Azko Nobel, on the acquisition of Fabryo Corporation from Oresa Ventures. This transaction was steered by Schoenherr corporate/m&a partners Monica Cojocaru and Markus Piuk. Monica Cojocaru's support of OMV Petrom's sale of its wind power company to Transeastern Power Trust was acknowledged by Ziarul Financiar as a highlight of 2017, and the deal was nominated in The Largest Transaction in the Energy Sector category.
