Impact of the EU AI Act on Personal Data Protection in Serbia Amidst Emerging AI Technologies

In a wide-ranging interview for Serbian magazine Biznis.rs, Schoenherr partner and AI expert Marija Vlajković shared her insights on the upcoming EU AI Act and its interplay with the GDPR and Serbian regulations on privacy. Among other things, she discussed the general classification, benefits and drawbacks of AI, and the relevant legal framework in Serbia in light of AI's growing impact. She pointed out that the EU AI Act will introduce a mandatory assessment of the impact of AI systems on fundamental human rights to maintain user privacy and that high-risk AI systems will be subject to a Data Protection Impact Assessment (DPIA). In addition, she explained Serbia's position concerning the AI-related legal framework and talked about the formation of a new regulatory authority responsible for supervising the implementation of the legal framework for AI.
