Schoenherr was named "Austrian M&A Legal Adviser of the Year" by the leading business intelligence provider Mergermarket at the European M&A Awards 2017 Gala.
Following the 2014 and 2015 awards, Schoenherr is once again acknowledged by Mergermarket as the leading M&A legal advisor in Austria. Corporate M&A partner Roman Perner received the award on Schoenherr's behalf at the ceremony held in London on 7 December.
"Owing to the dedication and expertise of our corporate M&A teams, we have supported some of the most complex and significant transactions in the country this past year," stated Schoenherr partner Alexander Popp, who heads the firm's corporate M&A practice group. "The award is a testament to our leading role as Austrian M&A legal advisors," concluded Roman Perner.
One of the mandates that was highlighted at the Mergermarket awards gala was Schoenherr's role as legal advisor to Raiffeisen Bank International in the merger with Raiffeisen Zentralbank – the largest corporate reorganisation in the Austrian banking sector to date. Schoenherr's support to companies in the telecoms and healthcare sectors was also emphasised at the awards ceremony, with notable transactions being the sale of Tele2's Austrian subsidiary to Hutchinson Drei (EUR 95m) and the acquisition of Austrian diabetes care platform mySugr by international biotech company Roche – the most notable digital healthcare deal in Europe in 2017.
Another noteworthy mandate was Schoenherr's support of Swedish EQT on the sale of its global business automation software provider Automic to NASDAQ-listed CA Technologies (EUR 600m). Lastly, Schoenherr provided Kansai Paint with comprehensive legal advice in Austria and 13 other jurisdictions in Central and Eastern Europe for the acquisition of coatings manufacturer Helios (EUR 678m).
The Mergermarket European M&A Awards pay tribute to the legal, financial, public relations, and accountancy advisors who have played leading roles in transactions in Europe over the past year. Firms are nominated for these awards based on Mergermarket league table analysis, and only the top firms by volume and by value are selected. The winners are selected by a panel of judges consisting of board members from leading banks and investment firms, as well as prominent academics and lawyers.
