Schoenherr advised the owners of ImWind, one of Austria's largest renewable energy producers, on the sale of all shares to Wien Energie.
For Wien Energie and the City of Vienna, this marks a historic milestone in the city's energy transition. Through this transaction, Wien Energie is directly expanding its green electricity portfolio by 52 wind turbines and four large-scale photovoltaic plants. The investment also offers enormous development potential: by 2030, Wien Energie aims to more than double its renewable energy output to 1,800 megawatts through wind, solar and hydroelectric power plants across Austria. The goal is to meet the entire electricity demand of all households in Vienna with renewable energy. By 2040, further expansion is planned with a total green electricity output of 2,800 megawatts – enough to supply the entire Vienna transport sector, from trams and underground trains to electric buses and cars, with climate-friendly electricity.
Schoenherr advised the owners of ImWind on all legal aspects of the transaction, which was successfully completed on 3 November 2025. The firm previously advised ImWind on the sale of two wind farms and a photovoltaic park to Wien Energie in October 2024.
ImWind has been developing, building and operating wind and photovoltaic parks in Austria, Germany and other European countries for 30 years.
Wien Energie is Austria's largest regional energy supplier.
